The Top Four Reasons Parents Love White Noise

Our Dohm sound machine has long been a “must have” for moms.  People generally understand that white noise is soothing for babies, and ANYthing that could help promote sleep is worth its weight in gold – but there’s a lot more to it than that.  Here are the less-obvious reasons you’ll love having a sound machine.

You’ll sleep better.

And not just because your baby is sleeping more – though that certainly helps!   We can’t tell you how many times we’ve heard from moms and dads who realized they were sleeping more deeply when the baby (and the sound machine) were in their room, and/or because the sound of white noise heard through the baby monitor lulled them to sleep.

Siblings need sleep, too.

The last thing you need when tending to the nursing needs of a newborn is a cranky toddler who’s been awoken by the sound of a crying baby.  White noise makes juggling different naptime and bedtime sleep schedules just a little bit easier.  (We won’t pretend it’s a breeze.)

It’s one pacifier you can let your child KEEP forever!

We have good news: while white noise IS soothing, it’s NOT a pacifier.  In fact, white noise is suitable for all ages, just as sleep routines are suitable (and recommended!) for all ages, even though we hear a whole lot more about them when it comes to helping babies learn to sleep.  This is the gift that keeps on giving… our sound machines are often beloved by generations, like functional family heirlooms!

Finally, it’s not just about sleep.

Another thing we hear a lot: “THANK YOU! You let us have a little more life.”  The sound masking properties of white noise mean that you can get a load of laundry done during naptime or watch a movie after putting the kids down… without whispering, tiptoeing, or worrying so much about waking the baby every single precious second.
